For two weeks, the tennis world has had its eyes fixed on beautiful Key Biscayne, just south of Miami, Florida. We looked at the draw and anticipated a final with the two legends…Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer. The Miami Open, where in 2004 Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer played each other for the very first time and the Nadal/Federer rivalry began. A 17 year old Nadal won that first match, but today it was all (almost) 36 year old Federer!
Who would have predicted a year like this? When I started my blog back in January, one of my first blog posts was a “fantasy” list of grand slam winners. On that list, Roger wins Wimbledon and Rafa wins The French Open.
When I wrote this, I truly thought this year would be dominated by Djokovic’s comeback from last year’s slump and his continued rivalry with Andy Murray. Now, it is completely possible for Rafa to win on clay and Roger to scoop up another title on grass. Or will Nick Kyrgios continue to show promise and incredible talent? Or Jack Sock? Who knows? The thing about fantasy predictions is just that…fantasy.
